Activities ot C.A.C.A. Washington, D. C. Lodge from August 2003 - August 2005

2003

  • August - At the biennial convention in Pasadena, CA, President David Leong was elected Grand Exec. Dave is the First Washington, D. C. Lodge member to be elected to the Grand Board.

  • October - Past President Gino Wang elected official photographer of the CACA of Washington, D. C.

  • November - Sent notices to local high schools and to 23 Chinese Schools announcing the Harrison Lee Memorial Scholarship Program. This program is for high school seniors of Chinese descent and awards of $500, $300 & $200 are based on writing a 500 word essay on the topic, "What Does Being An American Mean To Me." Ann Lee, who has been chairing all our scholarship programs for over two decades, continues to do an excellent job.

2004

  • January - Sent notices to high school seniors soliciting participants for the annual McDonald's Asian Pacific American Community Service Awards Program. Prize was two $1,000 scholarships.

  • Again, used the "Lucky Money" as a Lodge fundraiser. This has become a good fund raising project for us.

  • February - Celebrated the Year of the Horse in Chinatown with many Lions and Dragons dancing, along with meetings and dinners with various organizations including the CCBA, numerous Family Associations, and TECRO.

  • November - To start the Harrison Lee Memorial Scholarship program, sent notices to local high schools and to 23 Chinese Schools in the metropolitan area. This program is for high school seniors of Chinese decent and scholarships of $500, $300 & $200 scholarships were awarded. We had 9 participants.

  • March - Participated in the C.A.C.A. National Essay Contest, had 19 contestants. We had one Regional Merit winner.

  • April - Awarded three Harrison Lee Memorial scholarships at our dinner meeting.

  • May - Participated in the 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Festival on the Potomac River. Also participated in various functions and forums celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month.

  • Grand Treasurer Herb Gee and Grand Exec Virginia Gee graced us with their presence at our bi-monthly dinner meeting. Herb very kindly spoke to us about how to handle our C Ds and our tax liability.

  • August - Participated in the binnial C.A.C.A. Retreat in Houston and Houston's 50th Anniversary Celebration.

2005

  • January - Again participated in the McDonalds Asian Pacific American Community Awards Program. We had one winner.

  • At our bi-monthly dinner meeting, we re-elected the current Board of Officers for another term. Once again passed the "Lucky Money" Project as a Lodge fundraiser, which proved so successful in the past. This year's project netted an all-time high of over S600.

  • February - The evaluation committee selected the three winners of the Harrison Lee Memorial Scholarship Program. Participated in the celebration of Chinese New Year. Sold lots of "Lucky Money."

  • March - National Essay Contest had 17 contestants with one No. 2 National winner. We are busv beating the drums for membership participation in the Biennial Convention in Salinas, CA.

  • May Participated in the 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Festival on the Potomac River. Past President Linda Lee chaired the event. Past President Dr. Toon Lee was in charge of the medical team.

  • Also participated in various functions and forums celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month.

  • As of this meeting, 9 members (approximately 1/3 of our membership) plan to attend the Convention in Salinas.

  • July - At our July dinner meeting, presented the Harrison Lee scholarships. The No. 2 National Essay winner could not make it. Chairperson Ann Lee proudly announced that we were able to increase the Harrison Lee Memorial scholarship awards to S 1,000, $500 and S200, respectively.

  • On to Salinas!
