Salinas Lodge held the following events in the last two years:
Our members volunteered for the AT&T Pro-Am Golf Tournament at Pebble Beach as well as 2003, 2004, 2005. We designated the proceeds to benefit scholarships and educational activities. This was a timely event as our other scholarship fundraising activity was waning after 15 years of monthly activity by a core of dedicated members. Under the chairmanship of Louis Lee and Sherman Low, we provided BBQ lunches for 150 workers at the tournament for 4 days. This year we were assigned to be bus conductors' guides. We had an overflow of enthusiastic volunteers who enjoyed this fellowship. We hope to continue this source of fundraising in the future. Our essay contest was held in March 2004. Many high school students of the Monterey County had participated. In July, we awarded scholarships to 7 high school recipients co-sponsored with the Chinese Assn. of Salinas. In June 13, 2004 our lodge has hosted a fundraising event for "Saving Angel Island". Felicia Lowe from San Francisco had given a presentation along with a videotape about Chinese Immigrants in Angel Island. It was a very well attended presentation. Three of our lodge members: Flora Chong, Wallace Ahtye and Richard Yee had participated in the "Neighborhood Watch on Soledad Street". This program is about the future redevelopment of the old Chinatown area. Members attended monthly meeting with other community leaders. In the beginning of last year, our lodge took up the challenge of hosting the 48th Biennial Convention in Salinas. This will be the 3rd convention that the Salinas Lodge has hosted. Albert Fong is the Salinas committee chairperson for the convention. Other committee members include
Convention meetings were held at least once a month other than our regular lodge meeting. The committee worked very hard with the fundraising and planning for the convention, which was the primary focus of 2005. We have made increased membership and youth involvement our important goals. We are blessed with enthusiastic & energetic members who are dedicated to the success of this lodge. |
