Report from Greater San Gabriel Valley Lodge (GSGVL)
August 2003 through August 2005

  • EDUCATION
    • We made a positive impact on the lives of 12 qualified and deserving High School students by awarding them scholarships that will create new possibilities for them and their families.
    • Chinese software was donated to Mark Keppel High School. It was accepted by the PTA President, Peter Kwan.
    • We joined with LA Lodge Youth Council for the "Youth Rhythmic Evening" at the Monterey Park Amphitheatre.
  • POLITICAL ACTIVITIES
    • We worked in conjunction with Cause 21 with the California Asian American Student Internship Coalition Leadership Academy.
    • Voter registration drives were conducted jointly with Cause 21.
    • We were actively involved in local elections. In Alhambra, our endorsement helped elect three School Board Members: Adel Andrade-Stadler, Pat Macintosh and Barbara Messina.
  • COMMUNITY SERVICE
    • We supported the Chinese American Historical Society with a fundraising dinner.
    • We supported the Soroptomist International's Fundraising Tea Party.
    • We supported the Monterey Park Public Library Fundraising Dinner.
    • We participated with the Huang Pu Ministry Academy Association to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of World War II.
    • Our organization's cultural activities were successful. A case in point is the Autumn Moon Festival where close to 1,000 people were in attendance.
    • We also supported Chamber Music performances.
    • When the YWCA - API Domestic Violence Program was cut, we wrote a letter to show our concern to California State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and state elected officials.
  • MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITIES
    • We also organized and conducted various seminars that enriched the lives of our members.
    • Recruitment of 20 new members in the last 2 years.
    • We joined with the LaSalle Boys School to honor Department of Labor Chief Financial Officer Samuel Mok with a dinner attended by over 500 people.
    • Our 2004 installation dinner was attended by over 400 people.
    • Our 2005 installation dinner was held at the new Hilton Hotel with equally successful attendance,
    • We conducted our regular monthly meetings and celebrated Christmas with a Lodge Christmas Party.
