Biennial Report of the Albuquerque Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, January 1, 2004 - August 7, 2005 The Albuquerque Lodge started the Chinese New Year of the Monkey or Lunar New Year of 4702 with a dinner at the Ho Lo Ma Chinese Restaurant on February 8, 2004. The dinner was well attended by members and guests. Some of the guests subsequently joined as new members. The program included customs related to the celebration, the Lion Dance and performance of traditional dances by the Lodge's youth and children. The Lodge held an annual picnic at the Aztec park on May 30, 2004. It was a wonderful occasion for members and guests to enjoy good foods, sports and fellowship. Our lodge joined other local Asian groups in the Asian Day Festival of Cultures on June 20, 2004. Our Lodge's children and youth participated in an anti-smoking Live Puppet Show organized by leaders of STOMP (Stop Tobacco On Our People). Our Lodge also set up display booths showing the history of Chinese Americans in New Mexico, and Chinese art objects, calligraphy and paintings. Instead of a Christmas party, a potluck was held at the Asbury United Methodist Church on November 20. 2004. The many members and guests who attended enjoyed the event. Three members of the Albuquerque Lodge attended the National Retreat and Planning Meeting of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance held in Houston in October, 2004. The Retreat committee of five was chaired by Virginia C. Gee of the San Francisco Lodge. Past Grand President Nancy Gee served as advisor and facilitator. The retreat was held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Houston Lodge. During the year; several of our members received favorable publicity and recognition. Charles and Synthia Lin were featured in a cover page and illustrated article in the Prime Time Monthly focused on their Chinese Culture Center and Lin's Martial Arts Academy and the benefits of Tai Chi Chuan to wellness and good health of Seniors. Linda Lee Louie was recognized as a "Woman Inspiring Hope and Possibility" by the U.S. Representative Heather Wilson and Linda's recognition was entered permanently in the U.S. Congregational Records. The Albuquerque papers had extensive news coverage on the grand opening of the Ta Lin International Market, owned by the Limary family, long time members of our Lodge. Youth Diana Wang, representing our Lodge, was the 8th place national essay winner conducted by the Grand Lodge. David Hsi was inducted into the Asian Academy Hall of Fame by the Asian Leaders Association at their Multi-Culture Awards Night held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Albuquerque on November 13, 2004. The Chinese New Year of the Rooster was celebrated with a bang at the Ho Lo Ma Restaurant on February 13. 2005. We were honored by an official visit by Grand President Saykin Foo and 2nd Grand Vice President Munson Kwok. Grand Presideny Foo even played the drums for the Lion Dance by our Lodge's children and youth. The turnout of members and guests was so good that we could not accommodate all who would like to attend. Mayor's representative presented gifts to our honored visitors. Memorial Day Picnic was held at Aztec Park on Sunday, May 2S. 2005. In addition to our large number of members and friends, we welcomed six special guests, four officers from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one Chinese journalist and one lady program officer from the Asian Foundation. Our essay contest sponsor Fay Yao presented cash prizes and certificated to local essay contest winners and one national 12th place winner Joanathan Jong, who was our first place winner in the local essay contest. Our Lodge participated in the June 5, 2005 Festival of Asian Cultures at Cesar Chavez Community Center sponsored by the Asian American Association of NM and one of the observances of the Tricentennial of the City of Albuquerque.
