The Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A.), in partnership with the Chinese American Museum (CAM), is pleased to announce a National Art Competition for students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The theme of the competition is “Monkeys, Tigers, and Dragons, Oh My! Your Chinese Zodiac Sign”.
Entries will be placed and judged in four divisions. Depending on the student artist’s age, a written description of the artwork is required and must be accompanied with the entry form upon submission.
This will be the fourth art competition organized by C.A.C.A. In1995, C.A.C.A. commemorated our100th Anniversary by holding its first art contest. Focusing on the theme on the Chinese zodiac animal signs, this year’s C.A.C.A./CAM National Art Competition will encourage students of all backgrounds to draw from their own observations and subjectively express through art, how they are like their zodiac sign in their personality traits and values. Such an opportunity allows the student artist, who may or may not be of Chinese decent, to become aware and creatively interpret from personal perspectives.
All entries must be submitted to the Chinese American Museum by 3 p.m., April 13, 2011 in accordance with the instructions and rules. The winning entries will be announced on a to-be-determined date in May 2011 and an award ceremony will take place in the Greater Los Angeles area in June 2011. There will be three awards ($300, $200, and $100) in each division with two Grand prize awards of $500, one for the older divisions and one for the younger divisions.
