Sam Chu Lin
Pioneer Broadcaster/Journalist
1939-2006

Sam Chu Lin was a man of profound national influence - a keen observer, consummate storyteller, and a tireless professional. He was an Asian American and American Southerner. And so, he was practically the first of his community to attain widespread national recognition in both electronic and print media. Thus he was also a trail-blazing pioneer.

He became a role model, mentor, and friend to many who would follow. As a great journalist, he witnessed injustice and discrimination up-close, understood it, and he courageously would reveal it all to us.

The Chinese American Citizens Alliance was privileged to recognize him last August with its Spirit of America award for his deep commitment to a better America. He was a wonderful friend to all of us. We will miss him deeply.

Our most heartfelt condolences are extended to his wife Judy, his sons, and his mother.

Judge Delbert Wong
1920-2006

Judge Delbert Wong passed away unexpectedly on March 10. He was one of the giants of our community, someone who will be sorely missed. His high moral and ethical standard stood as a beacon for the rest of us. He was extremely accessible for a man of his profession and standing, a genuinely good friend. His leadership, guidance, and wisdom were invaluable to the community as it flourished and grew into the huge, rich, diverse complexity, which is Los Angeles today.

It was a great privilege for Los Angeles Lodge to have him as a member. A member of Los Angeles Lodge for 53 years, he was a second-generation member, following in the footsteps of his father, a member of Fresno Lodge in pre-World War II days.

It is possible that the memory of those challenging days of exclusion and discrimination, and the Alliance's often lonely response for the community in those early years, was what led him to be such a loyal lifetime member, for which we are all grateful.

Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences are extended to his wife Dolores and family.
