| IN MEMORIAM: HON. CHI KIN MUI |
|
Hon. Chi Mui, member and past president of Los Angeles Lodge, passed away after a long illness on April 27, 2006. He was 53. Let me express on behalf of the brethren of Chinese American Citizens Alliance our deepest condolences to Betty, Chi's wife and to Kevin and Brian, his sons, on the passing of the Hon. Chi Kin Mui. In a unusual step for a young advocate, he joined Chinese American Citizens Alliance about 10 years ago. He rose to lodge president, became a great leader for us, both regionally and nationally, and thereafter a major leader of Chinatown. He founded the very successful youth council, which bro. Winston Wu continues to run today. then he moved into the San Gabriel valley, won election to the city council of San Gabriel. He was the first Chinese American to do so, and recently became the first Chinese American mayor of that city. By god's will, Bro. Chi has been taken from us much too early, with promises unfulfilled. It is however also god's will that Chi accomplished so much in such a little time, in a short but illustrious community and public career, for two communities: Los Angeles Chinatown and City of San Gabriel. If we are to honor his memory, we must learn from his example and from his actions, embrace his vision for an enriched community, and reaffirm our own personal commitments to contribute our efforts in making our communities better.
